Maternity Care Quiz

Consumer Reports has a really cool interactive quiz regarding maternity care which is not only fun, but may really open your eyes to the truth about some basic, routine procedures given during labor and delivery.

Some of the true/false statements include:

  • Due-date estimates can be off by up to two weeks.
  • "Breaking the waters" helps hasten labor.
  • Once you've had a C-section, it's best to do it again.
  • Epidural anesthesia is a low-risk way to make labor easier.
  • Episiotomies reduce the risk of perineal tearing.
You may be very surprised by the answers!

For more information regarding maternity care, be sure to read my post entitled The Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative.

You might also enjoy listening to the Business of Being Born Round Table Discussion recorded right here in our dining room with a few of my home-birth buddies.

Follow this link to access the quiz. Come back when you are done and leave a comment telling us how you did.

I passed with flying colors!

  1. This is a great quiz! I just took it, and I got them all right. But I've spent hours and hours researching birth. I think that less birth obsessed ladies might very well find some big surprises here. Thanks for sharing it!
